DCLM Sincere Milk 14 June 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Break And Build
Topic: Break And Build
Text: Jeremiah 13:21-23
22And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.
23Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
Key Verse: “Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.” Jeremiah 13:23
Message
Habit is defined as a settled way of behavior that is not easy to change. It is commonly said, “habits are easier to form than to break”. Your behaviour can make you to be loved or hated by people. Has someone complained before about your habits? Someone has said, “habit is everything.” Your behaviour can build or break you. Our topic says that it is better to form a new, godly habit and break an old, bad habit. As it is not easy for the Ethiopian and the leopard in our text, to change their skin and spots, so those who are used to doing evil cannot find it easy to do what is good.

But that is what is required if you are going to live a meaningful life here on earth. The only way to break bad habit is through repentance and cleansing by the blood of Jesus. Therefore, you must humbly pray, confess your sins to God and ask Him to forgive and cleanse you from all sinful habits. After this, start to build up a godly life style through daily studying and meditating on God’s word.

Prayer for today: Lord, forgive and cleanse me from all sinful habits.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
