DCLM Sincere Milk 13 June 2023 — Anger Destroys

DCLM Sincere Milk  13 June 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Anger Destroys

Topic: Anger Destroys

Text: 2 Chronicles 26:16-21

16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

17And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:

18And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.

19Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.

20And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.

21And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

Key Verse: “Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.” 2 Chronicles 26:19

Message

Anger is a dangerous behaviour that must not be in the life of a Christian at any time. It was pride and anger that brought leprosy upon King Uzziah. Stanley gets angry over every little thing. He gets upset when he doesn’t get what he wants, when his friends don’t act fair, tease him or when he is compelled to do things he doesn’t want to do. At times, he gets angry when told to go and do his homework instead of watching cartoon. At such times, his eyes would become red and he will murmur or throw things around the house. This got his mom so worried that she spanks him often.

Amazingly, he became unusually quiet and sober during the family devotion one morning when he read that “anger rests in the bosom of fools”. He thereafter asked his mom what to do to get rid of anger and react better when people do things to make him angry. Stanley’s mom explained that the first thing to do is to become a friend of Jesus by surrendering his heart to Christ in full repentance. He helps to get rid of the root of sin and makes it possible to have control over your emotions. If there is anger in your heart, pray now that God will deliver you.

Prayer for today: Lord, please don’t let anger have power over me in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
