Topic: Do Not Live A Lie

Text: Luke 12:1-3

1In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

2For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

3Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Key Verse: “For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known” (Luke 12:2).

Message

There was a young lady who lived an extravagant life on a university campus in Nigeria. She told everyone around her that her parents were millionaires. However, she was making her money for her high life from male friends outside the campus. One day, her poor mother came to see her. On hearing that her mother was looking for her, she denounced her, saying that she was not her mother.

It was a bitter experience for the mother who wept openly. Jesus, from our text, warned His disciples of hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is synonymous to the idiom, “live a lie.” It is a life of hiding the truth about oneself. It means to live a false or deceptive life, a life of pretense.

Do you hide any sinful habit? Do you collect money from your parents by deceit? Does your life at school tally with your life at home? A life of duplicity does not end well. You can be free from this fake life if you come to Jesus now in true repentance. Lying is a sin (Revelation 21:8).

Quote: Be free from this fake life

Challenge: When you live a lie, you fool yourself.

Prayer for today: Holy Father, help me to be a real me, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
