14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Message
One day, a man asked an old shepherd how he used his staff to guide as well as comfort the sheep. The shepherd explained that in the day time, while going ahead of his flock, he carried his staff across his shoulders so the flock could see and follow him. However, he explained further, when night falls and it is dark and difficult for the sheep to see ahead of them, he tapped the ground with his staff. While tapping, he would walk slowly so that the flock could hear and follow the direction of the sound, knowing their shepherd was ahead of them. This gave the flock the assurance that their loving and caring shepherd was still leading/guiding them.
The word of God and His Spirit are the guides of a child of God today. God speaks to you through His word, the Bible; that is why you must read and meditate on it daily. At other times, His Spirit whispers gently to you in a still small voice. You must pay attention to the Spirit of God in order to hear His voice within you. He speaks to reassure His children of His presence as they diligently follow Him. Like the old shepherd was closely followed by his flock in the night, listen to the Spirit of God and He will always lead you.

Prayer for today: Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, lead me by Your Spirit and help me to follow You dutifully.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
