DCLM Higher Everyday 3 May 2024 — Just Beginning the Journey
Topic: Just Beginning the Journey
Text: 1 Peter 2:1-3
1Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
Key Verse: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1Peter 2:2).
Message
The Christian journey to heaven begins when a sinner forsakes his sins and turns to Christ, accepting Him as his Lord and Saviour. With that, he becomes a child of God, with his name in God’s book of life. As natural babies need milk for growth, a newborn baby in God’s kingdom needs spiritual milk of the word of God to grow strong in the faith. This was why Cynthia Heald wrote, “Growing in any area of the Christian life takes time, and the key is daily sitting at the feet of Jesus.” You must lay aside, “all malice, and all guile and hypocrisies, and envies, all evil speakings” (1Peter 2:1) in order to keep yourself pure and make progress in your new Christian experience.
Moreover, God will graciously give you sufficient grace to overcome the antics of the devil, who works through temptations aimed at discouraging you, to make you backslide. The Apostles of Jesus did not backslide because they gave themselves “continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” In your pilgrim journey, read the word, pray and preach.
Quote: Grow strong in the faith
Challenge: Better is the end of a thing than the beginning.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to serve you to the end.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
