DCLM Higher Everyday 27 May 2024 — Dry Bones Shall Rise Again
Topic: Dry Bones Shall Rise Again
Text: Ezekiel 37:1-10
1The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,
3And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.
4Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.
5Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:
6And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
7So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.
8And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.
9Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.
10So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.
Key Verse: “Again, he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD” (Ezekiel 37:4).
Message
The dry bones in our text represent various hopeless circumstances in the life of man. The entire passage is a transcript of the conversation between God and the prophet, Ezekiel. It shows the possibilities for restoration through the power of the spoken word amidst lost hope. The Scripture reveals that in the last days, the heart of men shall fail them because of life’s challenges (Luke 21:26). We are in the last days. Many are truly depressed and sick because of different hopeless situations. During the 2022 World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), the World Health Organisation (WHO) said an estimated 703,000 people commit suicide yearly; for every suicide, 25 people make a suicide attempt, and many more have serious thoughts of suicide.
Youths are not spared of life’s painful situations. WHO considered suicide to be the fourth leading cause of deaths among persons aged 15-19 years. Every youth should understand that no case is hopeless when God is involved. The Word of God is a divine weapon for turning things around. Today is children’s Day. Pray as led for all children.
Quote: No case is hopeless
Challenge:Speak only God’s Word and not what you see or feel.
Prayer for today: Oh God, let my tongue be a spring of life to dry bones, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
