DCLM Higher Everyday 13 July 2024 — Jesus Heals Bartimaeus
DCLM Higher Everyday 13 July 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Jesus Heals Bartimaeus
Topic: Jesus Heals Bartimaeus
Text: Mark 10:46-50
46And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
48And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
49And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
Key Verse: “And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way” (Mark 10:52).
Message
The healing of blind Bartimeaus by Jesus teaches us how far we can go in our quest to achieve anything in life. The tenacity, sheer determination, courage and absolute focus demonstrated by Bartimaeus ought to serve as a reference point in our quest to achieve any goal in life.W. Clement Stone wrote that, “You can judge the faith of an individual by what he does at the time of his greatest need, when he must either run, surrender or fight.” Blind Bartimaeus fought his way through and Jesus declared, “Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole.”
How did he get his sight in spite of challenges before him? First, he recognized the source of solution – Jesus. Second, he was unintimidated by the mammoth crowd and their hostility, trying to shout him down. Third, he took his chances of meeting the Saviour and was specific about his need, which was, receiving his sight. And fourth, his unshakable faith in God to restore his sight. Such demonstration of great faith can never escape God’s attention.
Quote: His unshakable faith in God
Challenge: An active faith can never escape God’s attention.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, help me to be focused in life, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
