DCLM Sincere Milk 4 January 2024 — Counsel – Part 3 – Sit Not

DCLM Sincere Milk  4 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Psalmist’s Counsel – Part 3 – Sit Not

Topic: Psalmist’s Counsel – Part 3 – Sit Not

Text: Psalm 1:1-3

1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Key Verse: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1

Message

Often when people are in the sitting position, they are more comfortable and it shows they are in a place they are happy to be and are not in a hurry to leave. So, to sit in the seat of the scornful shows that someone had gone beyond walking in the counsel and standing in the way of sinners and now is settling down to even contribute to the evil conversation of the sinners. To sit in the seat of the scornful is a state of backsliding.

Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went down to Ahab the king of Israel; he made a big party for him, they sat together and dined together. Ahab then suggested that he should follow him to battle and he agreed as they were then one. He equaled himself with the backslidden king of Israel who hated God’s true prophet. Jehoshaphat almost lost his life in the battle except for God’s mercy that saved him when he cried out to God. Go far away as much as possible from those who reject and mock God and His servants.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, please give me courage to keep away from all those who hate Your word.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
