DCLM Sincere Milk 26 September 2024 — Jeroboam’s Deceitful Act

DCLM Sincere Milk  26 September 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiJeroboam’s Deceitful Act

Topic: Jeroboam’s Deceitful Act

Text: 1Kings 14:1-6

1At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.

2And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.

3And take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell thee what shall become of the child.

4And Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

5And the LORD said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus shalt thou say unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.

6And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

Key Verse: “And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh:” 1 Kings 14:2a

Message

The students did not know that the glass door to the examination hall was transparent on the other side. That means the glass door could not be seen through from the inside of the hall, but the hall was as clear as the sky when looking from the outside. This was done deliberately so that the invigilator could observe what is going on among the pupils when they feel he is not around. Then the cheats were caught red-handed.

Jeroboam, the King of Israel, did not know that though he could not see God, yet the “Great Invigilator” of everyone was hearing and seeing him clearly in the secret of his palace. He thought he could deceive the Prophet of God. He did not want to repent from his sin of making the people of God to worship idol. He was ready to cheat his way through as usual. His child died as a punishment for his sins. Many children practice deceit and pretence. You cannot hide from God though darkness covers you; His eyes are watching you. Repent from all evil and do what is right before Him everywhere you go.

Prayer for today: Lord, deliver me from the foolishness of thinking I can hide my sins from You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
