TOPIC: RESEARCHING FOR RESULTS – 1

TEXT:JOSHUA 2:1-7

1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.

3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.

4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:

5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

MEMORY VERSE: “And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there” (JOSHUA 2:1).

MESSAGE

Research is an innovative and systematic exercise aimed at increasing the body of knowledge. Research deals with collecting, organizing and analyzing of information to broaden our understanding of a phenomenon.

Without research, the world will be stagnant and people will remain uninformed about things around them. Research brings development to humanity, because it opens our eyes to many things that remain undiscovered.

In our text, Joshua, trying to have more understanding about Jericho, sent two spies to the land for intelligence gathering. Students usually need to embark on research from time to time to gather more information about what they are taught in the class by their teachers.

Serious students usually go the extra mile to conduct research so they could be ahead of the class or to understand more about what they have been taught. However, your research must be properly guided by the syllabus or curriculum to avoid veering off your scope or level of study.*

Visit the library and the internet regularly to stay informed, but avoid sites that would pollute your mind and lure you into sin.

QUOTE: Research brings development.

CHALLENGE: Research keeps you informed.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to engage in researches to broaden my knowledge.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
