DCLM Sincere Milk 6 November 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A More Precious Gift
Topic: A More Precious Gift
Text: Matthew 2:1-11
1Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
3When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
Key Verse: “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11
Message
The Bible calls the people that came to see Jesus at His birth, wise men. They were not only wise because they were learned in the science of reading the stars and time, but also in knowing what God demands from them: worship and gift. In worship; we accept God as the Creator, the only One to be honoured and adored. The gifts are to appreciate God’s care as the only Provider: The Giver of all things. Do you know that there are millions of people in this world who neither worship nor give to God? God is happy when we give to Him out of what we have. However, there is a more precious gift God wants from everyone.

If you give all you have on earth to God, but you have not given Him your heart, then you have given Him nothing. He will only accept your gifts and bless you after you have first given your heart to Him by turning away from your sins, asking Him to forgive you, and promising Him that you will not do bad things again.

Prayer for today: Lord, forgive my sins, wash my heart clean and teach me to give willingly to You.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
