DCLM Higher Everyday 5 December 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Know More About Jesus
Topic: Know More About Jesus
Text: Philippians 3:7-10
7But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
9And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Key Verse: “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” (Philippians 3:10).
Message
In our text, Apostle Paul expressed his desire to know more of Christ. It is great to know more about Jesus. One of the reasons is so as to obtain grace to resist and overcome all negative pressure from the world. Another reason is to understand the unfathomable privileges of mercy which have made us part of the family of God, Almighty. More so, this quest gives you a sense of direction in life as His purpose for your existence becomes clearer.

The joy, strength, zeal for acceptable service and the accompanying exploits come from the desire to know more of Jesus. We cannot appreciate the fact of Jesus’ death and resurrection, until we have made Him our Lord. Jesus is awesome. The Christian life is about continually seeking Jesus, learning more about Him and enjoying His fellowship. “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). Knowing Jesus does not come through searching secular materials, but by reading the Bible fellowshipping with those who believe the gospel.
Quote: Jesus is awesome
Challenge: Learn more about Him.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to always desire to know more of you.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
