DCLM Higher Everyday 24 March 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Adolescence 2: Challenges Of Puberty
Topic: Adolescence 2: Challenges Of Puberty
Text: Luke 2:46-52
46And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
50And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
Key Verse: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man” (Luke 2:52).
Message
Adolescence is a period characterized by identity crisis – a period of uncertainty or confusion in a youth’s life. This crisis needs to be addressed before an adolescent can feel secure and motivated to live a peaceful life. Adjustment is the ability to adapt to distressing situations around us. Christian youths need to be resilient in fighting against psychological, social and spiritual distressing situations that can provoke anxiety, depression, or emotional disturbances in them.

Christian youths should not be afraid as God knows the challenges of adolescents more than they even do. He will address all the confusions the devil wants to bring in your way if you are obedient to His word and avoid negative peer pressures that can lead to sinful lifestyles – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). Beloved, work closely with your parents, spiritual leaders, teachers, counsellors and principals to address your spiritual, emotional and school adjustments needs. Above all, trust in the Lord and He will help you.
Quote: God knows the challenges of adolescents
Challenge: Feel secure and motivated in Christ.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to surmount adolescent crisis.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
