DCLM Higher Everyday 5 May 2025 — Savour The Lord’s Supper

DCLM Higher Everyday 5 May 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Savour The Lord’s Supper

Topic: Savour The Lord’s Supper

Text: 1 Corinthians 11:23-30

23Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.

24Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.

25Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;

26In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;

27In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

28Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

29Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?

30If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.

Key Verse: “And when he had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you; this do in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24).

Message

The Lord’s Supper is traced back to the Passover meal at the time of the Exodus. It is a distinctive symbol of Christian worship. Jesus instituted it on the eve of His death during His final meal with His disciples. It is to be observed in remembrance of Christ’s atoning death and the second coming. The two emblems of this ordinance are unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine, representing the broken body of Christ and His shed blood, respectively.

Here are some qualities of the Lord’s Supper: One, it is a regular opportunity for believers to examine their relationship with the Lord. Two, before partaking in the Lord’s Supper, it is vital to ensure that there is no sin in our lives. Three, it serves as a reminder of the passing nature of our physical bodies and eternal nature of the spiritual. Four, we are to take it until Christ’s Second Coming. Five, it is a warning of judgment for those who don’t partake in it. All believers should savour this supper instituted by the Saviour.

Quote: All believers should savour this supper

Challenge: The Lord’s Supper time is a time of self-examination.

Prayer for today: Lord, qualify me to partake at your table.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
