Topic: God – Our Shield.
Text: Genesis 15:1-5
1After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
3And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
Key Verse: “After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” Genesis 15:1
Message
A shield is a piece of metal or other material carried to protect the front of the body when being attacked, or a person or thing that provides protection. The shield represents the protection of God. In the Bible days, especially the Old Testament, shields were commonly used during battle to protect the front of the body when arrows were thrown against an individual by an enemy.

According to our Bible passage, God was assuring Abraham that he should fear not that He was his shield. This means that God was assuring him of protection from any evil or attack from the enemy. When God assures you of protection then you have nothing to worry about. He is our strength and shield and according to Psalm 91 He is our Refuge and Fortress. Once you hide under the shadow of the Almighty you will be protected.
To come under the protection of God, you need to become His friend. You cannot be a stranger to God and seek His protection. Make Him your friend today by surrendering your life to Him. Then He can be your Shield.
PRAYER: The Lord is my Shield and I will be protected from all evil.
FURTHER READING: Psalms 91:1-3
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
