Topic: There Is Something To Do
Text: James 1:21-27
21Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Key Verse: “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22
Message
Children are often faced with the temptation to be idle. They want to do nothing but play. However, true success is never achieved by people who do not do what they are supposed to do. You must be serious with your studies and read your books if you want to pass your exams and succeed.

There is something to do if you ever desire to spend eternity with Jesus in heaven. You must truly repent of your sins. There is something to do if you want to make it to heaven when the trumpet sounds. You must seek God passionately for your heart to be made holy and daily live a life that pleases God.
There are many examples in the Bible and in our days of people who became great because they did what God required of them. Elijah by himself could not create the fire that fell from heaven, but God did after Elijah did what he could by repairing the altar. Do what you can and what you are expected to do. Greatness lies in doing the right things. Do something useful about your life today and every day.

Prayer for today: Dear God, help me to always do the right things so I can be what You created me to be.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
