DCLM Higher Everyday 6 October 2025 — Grow Up, Boys And Girls!

DCLM Higher Everyday 6 October 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Grow Up, Boys And Girls!

Topic: Grow Up, Boys And Girls!

Text: 1 Corinthians 13:11-13

11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Key Verse: “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things” (1 Corinthians 13:11).

Message

How do you feel if you plant a seed and it never germinates? Or how would feel if you remain in a particular class for years without promotion? That’s exactly how God feels about you when you refuse to grow up. In our text, Paul in his sermon to the Corinthians referred to the importance of growing up physically, mentally and spiritually. To grow up means to increase in grace and knowledge as believers. It means to have more understanding of God’s word even as we mature and grow physically.

Paul chided the Hebrew believers for their lack of understanding in spiritual matters as they were still behaving like babes. There are certain behaviours and attitudes we give up as grown up believers. Childish behaviours do not portray Christian maturity. How is your Christian life? Are you still a babe in the Lord after many years of conversion? Pray for the grace to experience exponential growth so that the devil will not continue to cheat you. Christian maturity does not necessarily mean growth in age. Young Timothy was mature in faith.

Quote: Young Timothy was mature in faith

Challenge: Grow up!

Prayer for today: Lord, help me grow into maturity in all areas of life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
