DCLM Higher Everyday 23 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Youths, Pray Like Jabez

Topic: Youths, Pray Like Jabez

Text: 1 Chronicles 4:9,10

9And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Key Verse: “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted Him that which he requested” (1Chronicle 4:10).

Message

The importance of prayer in the life of Christian Youth is incontestable, as the Lord Jesus Christ Himself in His earthly ministry gave a classical parable on the persistent widow saying, “that men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1). Persistent prayer can transform the lives and situations of the children of God. It provides a positive transmission link between humans and the Almighty God. Speaking through Apostle Paul, the Holy Spirit commands all Christians to “Pray without ceasing” (1Thessalonias 5:17). Jabez, after realizing his challenges arising from the circumstance of his birth, prayed in the right direction and God granted his petitions.

The recognition of the omnipotence of God and acknowledgement of His capacity to “to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory” (Philippians 4:19), makes it necessary for us to pray like Jabez.  Acting and praying like Jabez is the most appropriate thing to do when you have problems beyond human solution.  Pray like Jabez and victory is sure. Divine assurance of answers to prayers remains the portion of every child of God. There is no impossibility with God.

Quote: Pray like Jabez and victory is sure

Challenge: Bring your challenges before God for solution.

Prayer for today: Almighty God, give me grace to pray like Jabez.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
