DCLM Higher Everyday 23 November 2025 — From Sorrow To Joy

DCLM Higher Everyday 23 November 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — From Sorrow To Joy

Topic: From Sorrow To Joy

Text: John 16:16-24

16A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

17Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

18They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

19Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

20Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

21A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

22And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

23And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Key Verse:  “Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy” (John 16:20).

Message

To illustrate our topic for today, our Lord used the beautiful figure of childbirth. When a baby is born after a period of labour, the face of the mother is a picture of joy. What causes the joy?-The baby. Yet a few hours earlier that same mother was in anguish and pain. And what was causing the pain? – The baby. In other words, the same thing that caused the sorrow would later be the cause of the joy. The pains, sufferings and sorrows borne by our Lord and Saviour Jesus brought the Joy of Salvation and redemption to mankind.  “…Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

Youths should be aware that there will always be times in our lives when we need to endure hardship, difficulty and suffering. Unfortunately, many youths don’t want to go through any period of sorrow or pain nowadays. They want to live above their lawful resources; and in the process delve into dubious acts in order to maintain their fake lives. Friend, remember that after the period of sorrow comes the period of joy.

Quote: We need to endure hardship

Challenge: After sorrow, comes joy.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, turn my sorrow into joy, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
