MEMORISE: Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:11

READ: 2 Samuel 12:11-13

11 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12 For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Matthew 20:1-16; Exodus 19-21

MESSAGE:

As humans, its not always easy to get along with everyone all the time. Sometimes, you could hurt someone’s feelings without intending to or you may be mean in order to prove a point. Either way, you need to apologize when you’re wrong so that you can make peace with the other person and be a good example.

In today’s Bible reading, King David realized his error when Prophet Nathan scolded him for his sin. He immediately apologized for committing adultery and murder. Although he reaped the consequences of his sins, he was still adjudged a man after God’s heart (Acts 13:22). Therefore, apologising for a wrongdoing is not a sign of weakness but strength. It shows that you have empathy, respect the other person and care about his/her feelings. It is important to apologise so as to build good relationships.

If someone is upset because of something you did, try to set things right. When you tease someone and he/she doesn’t find it funny, apologise. If you lose or break something that belonged to someone else, before you replace it, apologise. If you tell a lie, break a rule or fail to keep a promise, apologise.

ACTION POINT:
Instead of trying to justify a wronging, just apologise

HYMN: Just As I Am, Without One Plea

  1. Just as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  2. Just as I am, and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot
To Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  3. Just as I am though tossed about,
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
    Fighting’s and fears within, without,
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  4. Just as I am poor, wretched, blind,
Sight, riches, healing of the mind
Yea, all I need, in Thee to find
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  5. Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
    Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve,
    Because Thy promise I believe
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  6. Just as I am Thy love unknown
    Has broken every barrier down;
Now to be Thine, yea Thine alone,
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  7. Just as I am, of that free love
    The breadth, length, depth and
    height to prove,
Here for a season, then above,
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
