DCLM Higher Everyday 8 December 2025 — An Expert In Divine Things
DCLM Higher Everyday 8 December 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — An Expert In Divine Things
Topic: An Expert In Divine Things
Text: 2 Timothy 2:14-18
14Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Key Verse: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
Message
One of the greatest presidents America had was Theodore Roosevelt. A British historian described him as the ‘most bookish man’ since John Quincy Adams. On January 6, 1919, at his home in New York, Theodore Roosevelt died in his sleep. When they moved him from his bed, they found a book under his pillow. Up to the very last, he was still striving to learn and improve himself. He was a voracious reader. In today’s text, Paul unveiled the dos and don’ts of an expert in the things of God to young Timothy and by extension, the contemporary youth.

An expert is a person with a high degree of proficiency in a certain subject or skill. Paul admonished Timothy to charge his brethren to refrain from unprofitable talks that can lead to ungodliness. As a Christian youth whose desire is to experience the fullness of God, you must never allow yourself to be drawn away from the sure word of God. Rather, the Bible must be your instruction manual and compass. This is the secret of an expert in divine things.

Challenge: Be a student of the Bible.
Prayer for today: Oh God, help me to treasure your word above any other thing.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
