DCLM Higher Everyday 15 February 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Believer’s Thoughts

Topic: The Believer’s Thoughts

Text: Philippians 4:7-9

7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

9Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Key Verse: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just…think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

Message

Zig Ziglar once said, “Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” And Wade Boggs posited, “A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes.” These remind us of Christ’s disciples, supposing a ghost was coming towards their boat when Jesus was walking on the water. Their thoughts turned their Saviour into a ghost who had come to attack. This shows wrong thoughts can lead to wrong action and negative outcomes.

As believers we are counselled to think of things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy. The mind is the battlefield; fill it with good thoughts. Your thoughts determine your actions, and the state of your heart dictates your thoughts. Therefore, fill your thoughts with the word of God. Guard your heart with all diligence so that the thoughts coming out of it may be pure, healthy and helpful. When tempted to sin, resist the temptation, and keep yourself pure. Are you a believer in Christ? If not repent and forsake your sins and accept Christ as your Lord.

Quote: Think of things that are true

Challenge: Allow God’s word to rule your thought.

Prayer for today: Lord, purify my heart that it may harbour pure thoughts.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
