DCLM Higher Everyday 17 February 2026 — The Blind Guide
DCLM Higher Everyday 17 February 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Blind Guide
Topic: The Blind Guide
Text: Matthew 15:9-14
9But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
10And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
11Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
12Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
13But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
14Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Key Verse: “Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch” (Matthew 15:14).
Message
According to Thomas Hardy, “There is a condition worse than blindness, and that is, seeing something that isn’t there.” Sadly, the Pharisees in our text saw the commandments and traditions of men worth teaching as doctrines over and above the commandments of God. They had no truth in them and were blind to the life-changing word of truth. We have so many modern Pharisees who through their craftiness have led many youths astray from the true gospel of Christ.

No leader can lead, or go farther than he has been led. Knowledge is the offspring of sight, feeling and hearing. A leader who lacks sight, hearing and feeling will lack in knowledge and will drown his followers in the sea of ignorance. Youths are enjoined to be careful about who they follow and listen to concerning the things of God. Are you following a false teacher? By their fruits you will know them. The combination of genuine salvation from sin and regular Bible study brings divine sight and equips a youth to be a leader after God’s heart.

Challenge: Aspire to live and lead like Christ, the Master.
Prayer for today: Open my eyes Lord, to know blinders and avoid them.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
