Topic: The Outpouring
Text: Acts 2:16-18
16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
Key Verse: “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams” (Acts 2:17).
Message
According to Bill Johnson, “God’s face is revealed in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.” The outpouring refers to the release of God’s Spirit upon His children. On the day of Pentecost, the early disciples gathered together in the upper room to pray and wait for the baptism in the Holy Ghost as Jesus Christ commanded them before He ascended to heaven (Luke 24:49). Those present experienced the mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit which manifested in speaking in diverse languages of those who were in Jerusalem at that time.

The purpose of the outpouring of the Spirit of God upon believers is to empower them to be effective witnesses for Christ as Apostle Peter did after receiving the experience. Jesus Christ did great exploits for God while He was physically here on earth because God gave Him the Holy Spirit without measure. God expects every believer to follow the example of the early disciples. The Lord is willing to fulfil the promise of the outpouring of His Spirit in our lives if we thirst, pray and manifest faith for the experience.
Quote: The release of God’s Spirit
Challenge: We are empty without the outpouring.
Prayer for today: Oh God, fill me with Your Holy Spirit today.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
