DCLM Higher Everyday 8 May 2026 — Lessons From Zadok’S Grandson
Topic: Lessons From Zadok’S Grandson
Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 27:1-6 (KJV)
1Jotham was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok.
3He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much.
4Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.
5He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third.
6So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.
MEMORY VERSE: “So Jotham became mighty because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God” (2 Chronicles 27:6).
Message
Jotham, the grandson of Zadok, was one of the youngest kings in Israel. He began to rule as a youth at the age of 25 and reigned for 16 years. Despite being a young king, he made significant achievements during his tenure. He built the high gate of the Lord’s house, cities and castles. He also had military prowess which was evident in the defeat of the nation of the Ammonites who later paid taxes to his government. He became mighty.
As young people, aspire to be great and successful just like Jotham. In our world today, many youths follow the ungodly examples of social media models and influencers in seeking success, without considering the way of the Lord. Jotham’s secret of greatness was that he allowed God to guide him. This made him to do what was right in God’s sight and God prospered his way. He followed the good example of his father, Uzziah and refused to do what his father did wrong. You too must choose the way to follow.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Holy Father, guide me in my success journey, in Jesus’ name.
CHALLENGE
You too can have great achievements.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
