Topic: If Ye Love Me
Bible Reading: John 14:15-19 (KJV)
15If ye love me, keep my commandments.
17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
MEMORY VERSE: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”John 14:15
Message
Many children enjoy singing this song which goes thus “I love Jesus, I love Jesus, He’s my friend, He’s my friend. I will always follow Him, I will always follow Him, He’s my friend, He’s my friend.”
Unfortunately, it is not all the children who love singing this song that truly love Jesus. This is because they still engage in all forms of sinful habits like stealing, hatred, lying, fighting, disobedience, witchcraft, stubbornness and many others. How then can a child truly love Jesus? The answer to this question is what the Lord Jesus Christ Himself gave in John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
To truly love Jesus is to keep His commandments. This means you must always read, think on and obey His word. However, to have power to keep His commandments, you must first become His friend by believing in Him and asking for cleansing in His blood. Make the word of God your best companion. Daily read, meditate on and put into practice all that it commands. Also, share the love of Jesus with sinners and invite them to fellowship with other friends of Jesus.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, please fill my heart with true love for You everyday of my life.
FURTHER READING
John 15:6-10
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
