DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Amazing stories of people who went from riches to rags abound in history. Elke Batista was once Brazil’s richest man. He was worth $30 billion before his business empire collapsed due to bad investments and corruption charges. In addition to losing his fortune, he faced prison time. Such stories remind us that earthly wealth is temporal, and we should not set our hearts on it.

In our text, Solomon advises caution and self-control when invited to feast or dine with the rich because you may not know the true intention behind the sumptuous meal. And for those whom the dainty food might tempt to desire riches at all costs, he admonishes them to exercise godly wisdom since the wealth could disappear suddenly.

As Solomon observes, the change of fortune could result from sudden calamity, as was the case of Job. The poverty could be caused by spending habits, as illustrated by the prodigal son. Sudden death could prevent the rich from enjoying the wealth they have laboured to acquire. In any case, the pleasure of material goods cannot go beyond this world. This is why Christ warns us not to labour for the meat that perisheth but for the meat which endureth unto everlasting life.

Sadly, many people are enticed by the ostentatious lifestyle and affluence often displayed by wealthy individuals. People cut corners and resort to financial crimes to become rich. That is one reason there is a global upsurge in fraud and kidnapping for ransom, which is a capital offence. Although there is nothing wrong with working honestly to be comfortable in life, we must not make the accumulation of earthly possessions our goal. Truly, the love of money is the root of all evils. As we trust God for the supply of our daily bread, we should heed the warning of Christ that a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his riches.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Money has wings, it can fly away suddenly.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
