Topic: Spiritual Leprosy
Bible Reading: Luke 5:12-15 (KJV)
12And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
14And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
15But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
KEY VERSE: “And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.” Luke 5:13
Message
Leprosy in the Bible was not just a physical disease; it was also a symbol of sin and its destructive power. Leprosy separated people from society and from worship in the temple. It was a slow and deadly disease, just like sin destroys lives spiritually. Those who had leprosy were considered unclean and needed divine intervention.
Just as physical leprosy affects the body, spiritual leprosy affects the soul. It is a condition of being spiritually infected by sin, leading to separation from God. Leprosy starts as a small spot and spreads, so also sin begins in a small way but grows if not stopped. Leprosy isolates people from society, just as sin isolates us from God’s presence. The consequence of spiritual leprosy is spiritual death as it brings divine judgment.
As Jesus showed His compassionate nature in healing lepers, so also does He possess the power to heal your spiritual leprosy. All you need do is to acknowledge your spiritual condition, cry out to God for mercy. Ask Him to forgive and cleanse your soul with the blood of Jesus, never go back to sin anymore. You have an opportunity today, do not delay. The cure to spiritual leprosy is found only in Jesus.
Lord, take away any form of spiritual leprosy in my life and make me clean.
FURTHER READING
1 John 1:6-9
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
