DCLM Higher Everyday 23 May 2026 — The Hypocrite
Topic: The Hypocrite
Bible Reading: Romans 2:1-11 (KJV)
1Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
3And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11For there is no respect of persons with God.
KEY VERSE: “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things” (Romans 2:1).
Message
A writer stated that, “The greatest hypocrisy is to pretend to be something you are not.” Let’s look at a hypocrite in two ways. One, he is someone who says the opposite of who he is. For example, if he is contesting for an elective post in a school, he could tell the electorate that he is trustworthy and a man of integrity. But no sooner he gets to office than he begins to show his true character of corruption and all kinds of vices. Two, Paul calls the hypocrite one who judges others for what he is equally guilty of – a sinner who condemns other sinners.
Therefore, before judging others, examine yourself if you have “clean hands, and a pure heart.” Remember, when we judge others, while we are guilty of the same sins, we condemn ourselves (Romans 2:1-3). God judges us based on our actions, and not by appearance and self-justification (Romans 2:6-11). Youths who seek to be justified by God should first acknowledge their sins and repent. Jesus condemns all forms of hypocrisy (Matthew 7:3-5; 23:25-28).
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Dear Father, help me live above hypocrisy, in Jesus’ name.
CHALLENGE
Avoid the pitfall of hypocrisy.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
