DCLM Higher Everyday  6 July 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Procrastination

Topic: Procrastination

Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 9:10-11(KJV)

10Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

11I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

KEY VERSE: Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave, whether thou goest ” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).

Message

In his book, Managing Your Time, Steeve Chalke says, “Not only will procrastination make you inefficient, of course, it will also add considerably to your overall sense of worry, guilt, pressure and low self-esteem, so reducing your efficiency even more.” Procrastination is the act of postponing, delaying, or putting off tasks, often hesitantly or intentionally. It hinders your ability to achieve or fulfil your purpose. Many students find themselves pushing aside assignments, studying, or even spiritual commitments, thinking they have plenty of time. However, this habit can lead to stress and poor academic performance, as last-minute efforts often yield subpar results.

In your spiritual life, procrastination can prevent you from deepening your relationship with God. When you delay prayer, Bible study, or fellowship, you miss out on the growth and strength that comes from these practices. James 4:8 reminds us, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” By putting off these spiritual practices, you risk drifting away from the source of your strength and guidance. Beloved, God also calls us to share His love with others. Obedience attracts blessings.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Oh God, help me to act fast on laudable goals in Jesus’ name.

CHALLENGE

Delaying action, is delaying achievement.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
