DCLM Sincere Milk 9 October 2026 — One Good Thing About The Prodigal Son
DCLM Sincere Milk 9 October 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — One Good Thing About The Prodigal Son
Topic: The Rewards Of Patience
Bible Reading: Luke 15:17-24 (KJV)
17And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
19And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
KEY VERSE: “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,” Luke 15:18
Message
Many children have heard the story of the prodigal son again and again; how the prodigal son wasted his money and resources, how he began to be in want, how all the friends that helped him waste his money deserted him, how he became homeless, how he wanted to eat the food meant for pigs and they did not give him. Whao! The poor boy suffered and nobody cared for him, he was lost.
But one day, something happened, he came to his senses and realized his folly. He agreed that he has done wrong. He admitted his wrong. He took a bold decision and followed it up with a bold and practical action. He said, “I will arise and go to my Father, … And he arose, and came to his Father …” This is courage. This is what can turn a life around from failure to success, from shame to honour, from regret and self-pity to a glorious achievement in life. Somebody once said, no matter how far you have gone on a wrong way, the only wise thing to do is to turn back. Continuing on a wrong way will never lead you to a happy destination. When will you turn back from the path of the prodigal? The prodigal son has changed! When will you change?
Are you truly born again? If not, why not? Do you know how much Jesus loves you? How much He cares for you? Turn from your sins today and receive Jesus Christ into your heart. The prodigal son will condemn many children on the last day because he changed but they did not change. May you not be one of such children to be condemned.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord Jesus, grant me the courage and the will power to turn away from all my evil ways today.
FURTHER READING
Matthew 21: 28-31
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
