DCLM Sincere Milk 5 November 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — From Grace To Grass – Part 2
Topic: From Grace To Grass – Part 2
Bible Reading: Acts 12:18-24 (KJV)
18Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
20And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.
21And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
24But the word of God grew and multiplied.
KEY VERSE: “And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.” Acts 12:23
Message
Herod was another king who fell from grace to grass because of pride. He was a wicked personality who killed James, a friend of Jesus. When he saw that the Jewish rulers were pleased with his wicked actions, he went further to arrest Peter, put him in prison ready to also kill him. Through God’s divine intervention, Peter was delivered. In all these, Herod did not humble himself to acknowledge the awesome power of God. At last, pride pushed him to put himself in the place of God. His downfall came immediately as an angel of God smote him, he died and his body was eaten up by worms before he could be buried.
Pride is dangerous and deadly. God created us all differently to give room for variety: some are tall, some are short in height, some look more beautiful or handsome than others, nobody created by God is ugly. Some come from rich families, some from poor homes, some go to private schools, some to public schools, some have loud voices to sing in the choir, some only like to listen to songs from others, some are very brilliant and always top the class, while some are just average students. All these are to give room for varieties. However, God hates pride. “… God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Pray that the gifts of God in your life will not make you proud and will not lead to destruction. Show humility in your language, appearance, attitude, thoughts and in the assessment of yourself. Never rate yourself above others. Pray for grace.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, make me a humble child.

Philippians 2:6-8
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
