TOPIC: WALKING TO PLEASE GOD
TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:1-4
2For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
3For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
4That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
Key Verse: “Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more” (1 Thessalonians 4:1).
MESSAGE:
Walking to please God should be the utmost desire of everyone. This is not always so as many people are living to please ‘self’. Pleasing self will lead to a regrettable end while living for God leads to joy and everlasting blessing.
This was the testimony of Enoch. He walked with God and pleased Him. This was what qualified him to be taken up to heaven without experiencing death. There are many examples of children both in the Old and New Testament who lived to please God. These include Samuel, Joshua, Daniel, Esther, Joseph, Abel and Timothy.
Walking to please God demands that you:
(i) Surrender your life to Jesus by accepting Him as your personal Saviour and Lord.
(ii) Live a holy life every day.
(iii) Become prayerful and watchful.
(iv) Daily read your Bible, think on its word and obey all that it commands.
(v) Run away from all bad things.
(vi) Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and spirit.
(vii) Defend the truth and stand for the truth.
(viii) Endure persecution for Christ’s sake.
(ix) Abstain from evil, avoid bad company and worldly influences.
Follow the example of those who please the Lord so as to enjoy bountiful blessings.
Prayer: Lord, give me grace to live my life to please You at all times.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
