TOPIC: OBEY GOOD COUNSEL
TEXT: PROVERBS 12:14-20
15The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
16A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.
17He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
18There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
19The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
Key Verse: “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise” (Proverbs 12:15).
MESSAGE:
Precious is from a godly home and has been exposed to the teaching of God’s word from a tender age. However, as he grew, he decided to go his own way, following the unwise advice of bad friends. His parents warned him severally, so also his school teachers and others, but he refused to listen to their wise counsel.
He started missing classes and was also running away from church meetings. Precious joined himself with some bad boys in the community and eventually became a ‘school dropout’. What a terrible end for a child that rejected good counsel.
Good success in life does not come through one’s wisdom alone, but with wise counsel and guide from parents and others. There is the need to take to heart the wisdom, knowledge and experiences of other people if one is to make progress in life. Good and godly counsels and directions take us farther than we can reach in life.
As a child, you have a limited understanding and experience of life, but God has surrounded you with people, particularly adults, who possess required knowledge and experiences needed to help you succeed. It is costly to reject wise counsel. Follow good counsel and it shall be well with you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to embrace wise counsel so that I can succeed in life.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)

4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
