TOPIC:WELL OF LIVING WATER
TEXT: JOHN 4:11-15
12Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
MEMORY VERSE: “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (JOHN 4:14).
MESSAGE:
Water is very essential for the survival of all living things. In fact, the survival of both plants and animals depend on the availability of water. According to Albert Szent Gyorogyi, “Water is life’s matter and matrix…there is no life without water.”
On the average, about 60% of the human adult body is water. Hence, he must consume a certain amount of water to survive each day.
In the passage, Christ shows that the natural water (from Jacob’s Well) yields a very short satisfaction. But whoever partakes of the Spirit of grace and the comforts of the gospel (from Jesus) shall be abundantly satisfied.
The word of God is also likened to water, a daily reading and meditation on God’s word gives the believer constant victory over sin, Satan and the world (Psalm 119:11). Jesus gives the living water which quenches our inner thirst.
Our thirst for the true and living God can only be satisfied through the water of life from Jesus. Accept Jesus today as your personal Saviour and Lord; and receive the living water which springs up to eternal life.
QUOTE: Jesus gives the living water.
CHALLENGE: Only Jesus can satisfy our inner thirst.
PRAYER: Fill my cup, Lord.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
