DCLM Sincere Milk 27 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Dangerous Suspicion
TOPIC: DANGEROUS SUSPICION
BIBLE TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 10:1-5
2Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
4Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
KEY VERSE: “And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?” (2 Samuel 10:3).
MESSAGE:
Mrs. Mercious was a very kind woman. One day, God touched her heart to buy and send some food materials to a poor family living close to her house. Amarie’s mother received the gift with mixed feelings. After leaving the stuff for a few days unattended to, she destroyed them; having heard a rumour in the past that Mrs. Mercious is generous for some evil gain.
In our text, Nahash, the king of Ammon had died. This man had been kind to David in time past. David decided to show kindness to Hanun, his son, who is now the new king by sending his messengers to comfort Hanun. But the princes of the children of Ammon suspected that David did not mean to do good, but was looking for a way to attack the king. Hanun disgraced the messengers of David and sent them away. Suspicion is a terrible sin before God.
Have you rejected God’s blessing through someone not because you do not need it but because you think evil in your heart? That may be wrong and ungodly. However, as children, it is good to always pray and show your parents whatever gift you receive before you use it.
PRAYER: I pray that the Spirit of the Lord will lead me in all I do and receive, and keep me from evil.
FURTHER READING: Psalm 109:3-5
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
