MESSAGE:
Helen Howarth Lemmel in 1918 wrote this amazing hymn that points out Christ’s help for troubled souls: O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Saviour, And life is more abundant and free.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace. In our text, Paul encourages the Church to uphold their faith in Jesus Christ.
As believers, when faced with trials and challenges, we are to look unto Jesus, because in Him we have help and hope. Through Christ’s atonement, teaching, and exemplary life, our lives are changed. Looking unto Jesus involves a lifestyle of prayer, and praise, as well as the study of and belief in God’s Word. Let your mind be focused on Jesus. You will make heaven. Press on!
Quote: Be focused on Jesus
Challenge: If Jesus endured and overcame, you too can.
Prayer for today: Help me to keep looking unto You dear Lord.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
