TOPIC: Fulfill Your Destiny (DCLM Daily Manna 19 April 2023)

KEY VERSE: “And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents” (Genesis 25:27).

TEXT: Genesis 25:19-28 (KJV)

19 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham begat Isaac:

20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.

21 And Isaac intreated the Lord for his wife, because she was barren: and the Lord was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the Lord.

23 And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

25 And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

26 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.

27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.

28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

A serene, sleepy, little town, in Oyo State, South West Nigeria, is reputed to be the twins’ capital of the world. According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), a study conducted by a British gynecologist, Patrick Nylander, between 1972 and 1982 recorded an average of 45 to 50 sets of twins per 1,000 live births in the town of Igbo Ora.

No one could conclusively explain this phenomenon, but there is hardly any family in the community that does not have twins.
Esau and Jacob were the first twins mentioned in the Bible. They were the only children of their parents. The boys were born after many prayers by their parents to break the yoke of barrenness that initially afflicted their marriage. The prayers continued even when their mother, Rebekah, became pregnant and experienced unusual fetal activity.

The message that Rebekah received about the twins in her womb was that “Two nations are in thy womb, and two manners of people shall be separated from thy bowels, and the one people shall be stronger than the other people, and the elder shall serve the younger” (Genesis 25:23). The two boys would chart separate destinies; and as prophesied, the younger will fare better than the elder.

God, the divine Manager, has a plan for each of His children. Esau would grow up later to be a hunter and the father of the Edomites, but Jacob, the shepherd boy, would be the progenitor of the nation of Israel. The career choice was only part of the great design of God to make a saint of an unworthy one.

God still has a plan for everyone. He also has the prerogative to dispense His grace to His people. We must be content to pursue the particular destiny set for us by God and fulfill the same to His glory.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
God has a good plan for each of His children.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Acts 24-25

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
