TOPIC: COMPANION OF THE WISE

BIBLE TEXT: PROVERBS 13:16-20

16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

KEY VERSE: “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20).

MESSAGE:

As a child, you have the privilege of meeting and associating with other boys and girls in school, church and in the neighbourhood. Some of these children become general friends with you, and some of them can become close companions. You should know that the type of life that your close friends live soon become your own lifestyle, because you spend time with them, talk with them and play with them.

Today’s Bible passage admonishes you to keep company with those who are wise. Wise children are those that are serious about getting to heaven, and will always read the word of God and obey it. When at school, wise children take their studies very seriously and read their books, do assignments, ask questions in class and respect teachers. At home, a child who is wise, helps Mom and Dad to get things done and keep the home tidy. But the other category of children are the unwise ones who do not take spiritual or school programmes seriously, and are lazy to get things done at home.

What type of friends do you follow? Are they wise or foolish? The best companion you can have is the One who stays closer than even a brother, His Name is Jesus. Be wise and make Him your friend today.

PRAYER: Lord, I surrender all to You. Give me grace to always follow wise counsel.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
