DCLM Sincere Milk  18 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Fixed Heart

Topic: A Fixed Heart

Text: Psalm 57:7-11

7My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.

8Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.

9I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.

10For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.

11Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth.

Key Verse: “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.” Psalms 57:7

Message

David was a king sitting on the throne of his glory, yet he was aware that there is a greater King with a greater glory than him, Who deserves his praise. David’s heart was fixed, that is, firmly set to sing and give praise to the almighty God. He did this no matter the condition he was; in time of trouble, reproach or in peace, that was his choice. He knew that praise was the only thing he could give to the great God Who delivered him from all harms and set him on the throne of the greatest nation on earth.

Sadly, there are people who have their hearts fixed on doing evil not in obeying and praising God. The people of the world sing, but not to praise God, only to promote self and immoral behaviour. You have a great lesson to learn from David: that no matter how important you may feel you are, you must humble yourself before God, fear Him, love Him and praise Him in songs and with a holy life. Your heart should be fixed to do what is right and proper. A heart that is fixed to praise God is a thankful heart that appreciates the goodness of a loving Father. Form the habit of praising God from a pure heart.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to always sing and praise Your Name at all times.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
