DCLM Higher Everyday 2 February 2024 — A Heavenly Call To Holiness
DCLM Higher Everyday 2 February 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Heavenly Call To Holiness
Topic: A Heavenly Call To Holiness
Text: 1 Peter 1:13-20
13Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
17And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
18Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
Key Verse: “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:15, 16).
Message
God is holy, and demands holiness from His children. Our text says: “…Be ye holy; for I am holy.” God’s call on believers, including youths, to be holy, is timeless. It spans through all generations, and every nation of the world. Holiness, being the nature of God, is central to Christianity, and is the only thing that will follow believers all through eternity. Holiness is a prerequisite for seeing God and spending eternity with Him in heaven. While repentance and confession of sin leads to salvation, sanctification frees the believer from inbred nature of sin. Are you sanctified?

Beloved, it is difficult to fulfil the heavenly call to holiness without sanctification. To be sanctified, pray to God in faith believing, and He will sanctify you, thus empowering you to live a consistent holy life, without compromise and conformity to the world. God wants you to be holy despite the defilement in your school, workplace and the world in general. Therefore, live daily with heaven in view and you will overcome youthful lusts and social-vices like examination malpractices.
Quote: God wants you to be holy.
Challenge: Live with heaven in view, pointing other youth to Christ.
Prayer for today: Help me Lord to live a consistent Christian life.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
