DCLM Sincere Milk  23 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Keep The Unity

Topic: Keep The Unity

Text: John 17:20-24

20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

Key Verse: “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:” John 17:22

Message

A bunch of broom is often tied together to make it effective in performing its main function – tidying up the environment. A single broom or even few pieces can never do what the bunch will do. The illustration shows that there is power in unity. There is an adage which says “united we stand, divided we fall”. Unity is a very important attribute in Christian fellowship.

Just as the body has many parts and one is dependent on the other, so God expects that we be united and care for one another. Each of us is uniquely gifted and endowed. There’s no need to be jealous or demonstrate anger, bitterness or keep malice with another person who is more gifted or better talented than we are. Do all you can to contribute to unity in your church, family and school fellowship. Be an example of a believer anywhere you go. Do not be an instrument of division but of unity.

Prayer for today: Lord, please make me an instrument of your peace in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
