TOPIC: A Pertinent Warning (DCLM Daily Manna 12 January 2023)

KEY VERSE: “But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell” (Proverbs 9:18).

TEXT: Proverbs 9:11-18 (KJV)

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:

16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

In the last few decades, there have been stories of respected men and women in society rubbished or messed up with the terrible sin of sexual immorality. Always colour-coated by the devil and supported by human depraved nature, sexual sins account for the biggest scandal in our society and the church today.

Our text contains a pertinent warning and danger sign to all saints who intend to live victorious life and avoid spiritual shipwreck of their precious faith. A prostitute is highlighted in the passage sitting at the high place of the city and calling on potential customers to lure into sin through lust and immorality. The passage then warns and highlights the danger of falling into the sin of adultery. It brings about the destruction of one’s reputation built over the years and could damn the soul in hell, if there is no repentance.

Believers should be careful when dealing with the opposite gender. Many careless saints have fallen through this sin of the flesh. Fornication or adultery has brought down many from the faith. Unfortunately, the world continues to glorify sin and sees nothing wrong with it. Chastity and sobriety have been thrown overboard in a world controlled by social media, and amplified by the entertainment industry.

That we have these warnings in the Scripture is not enough; we must read and apply them to our lives on a daily basis. Just like the road signs are obeyed and enforced before safety of lives can be guaranteed, believers must follow strictly the divine imperatives of resisting the devil, fleeing fornication, watching and praying in order not to fall into temptation. God has made abundant grace available to help those who are tempted. And in every temptation, He gives us strength to overcome and creates a way to escape.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
A wise Christian sees danger written on every object of temptation.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Genesis 35–37

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
