DCLM Higher Everyday 24 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Above Only
Topic: Above Only
Text: Deuteronomy 28:9-15
10And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.
11And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
12The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
14And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
15But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
Key Verse: “And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them” (Deuteronomy 28:13).
Message
Eagles are known for their high altitude flights. They use rising air currents to soar high up in the skies. Depending on the species of the eagle, they can reach a height of between 10,000 and 20,000 feet above sea level. From these vantage points, their keen eye sights allow them to scout for prey far below. Eagles can also fly at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. They are not always found on the ground but above only.
The promise of God to His children is that they should be above only. To be above only is to be the best in all our endeavours. It is to excel beyond our equals. It is to achieve feats that appear seemingly impossible to average youths. However, to be above only, there is need for a youth to work hard and smart. He must go the extra mile by studying while others are sleeping; reading while others are roaming about and planning while others are playing. Furthermore, to be above only youths must be born again, obey God’s Word and pray to Him for success.
Quote: Work hard and smart
Challenge: Aim at the top in all you do.
Prayer for today: Dear Lord, make me the head and not the tail.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
