DCLM Higher Everyday 3 August 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Act Like A Hero In Adversity

Topic: Act Like A Hero In Adversity

Text: Proverbs 24:10-12

10If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

11If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

12If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

Key Verse: “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small” (Proverbs 24:10).

Message

Fanny Crosby became blind at the age of six weeks though wrong medical prescription when she caught fever. Yet with the joy of the Lord she wrote over eight thousand sacred songs and hymns, including, ‘Blessed Assurance’ and ‘Rescue the Perishing.’ She died at over 95 years of age. When we talk about adversity, we are referring to the challenges that life presents us. These challenges can have a significant impact on our lives. Adversity can be a result of external factors, such as economic downturns or social instability. It may also be set-back in fortunes, like Job’s case, and accidents.

People complain about life’s difficulties. And yet it’s the difficulties of life that make us who we are — and it’s through the adversities that we become heroic. When faced with adversity, some people crumble under the weight, while others rise to the occasion and come out stronger, like Fanny Crosby. What sets these individuals apart? The answer lies in their resilience – their ability to adapt and bounce back from difficult situations. Resilience is a skill that can be learned. How resilient are you?

Quote: Difficulties of life make us who we are.

Challenge: How resilient are you?

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to rise above adversities.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
