Text: 1 John 5:1-5
2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Message
Overcomers are people on whom Satan has no power; they are overcomers because Christ the Greater One lives in them (1 John 4:4). To be an overcomer, you must become a friend of Jesus, obey all His commandments and live for Him daily. David was a friend of Jesus who always preached Christ to His friends/classmates. He was hated by some of them because he refused to join them in doing bad things.
One day, as they were preparing for their promotional examination, David kept his study materials in his bag and left the class to use the restroom. His bag was searched before he returned and the little notebook which he had jotted summaries of what he read was taken away. He searched in vain for it. Nobody owned up to taking it. Though a little bit disturbed, David encouraged himself with God’s word that he would be an overcomer. He continued with his studies and made new short notes. When the result of the examination was released two weeks later, he was at the top of his class. He knew the secret of being an overcomer – he held on to Christ and did the right thing (study well). Those who took his note later came to confess and apologize to him. He forgave them.

Prayer for today: Lord, please give me the mind of Christ so that I can be victorious in all situations.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
