TOPIC: ARE YOU A FRIEND OF JESUS?
BIBLE TEXT: 1 JOHN 1:6-10
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
KEY VERSE: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
MESSAGE:
We cannot be friends of Jesus if we do bad things like lying, stealing, abusing and disobedience. God does not like sin at all. That was the reason God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for us, so that we can be free from sin and become His friends.
How do we become friends of Jesus? By being born again! How do we get born again? By realizing that we are sinners, repenting of our sins, confessing them to Him, asking for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus, and forsaking all sins. The Bible tells us that He will forgive us all the sins we ever committed if we come to Him in true repentance.
Jesus is ready to become your friend, but first, you must tell Him all the sins you have committed, ask for forgiveness and never go back to the sins you repented of. If you have not repented of your sins, you can do that today and become a friend of Jesus, and a child of God.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, please forgive me for all the bad things I have done, and make me Your friend today.
FURTHER READING: John 1:9-13
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
