DCLM Sincere Milk 29 September 2024 — Avoid Jealousy
DCLM Sincere Milk 29 September 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Avoid Jealousy
Topic: Avoid Jealousy
Text: Genesis 37:1-11
1And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.
3Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
4And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
5And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
6And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
7For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.
8And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.
9And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.
10And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
11And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.
Key Verse: “And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.” Genesis 37:11
Message
To be jealous is to have a feeling of resentment for someone because of his achievements, possessions or perceived advantages. Jealousy comes when we see something in others that we desire to have but do not have. It is good to admire someone, and it is also okay to desire something good but it is bad when we begin to envy someone. Jealousy also comes through inferiority complex/low selfesteem which is very bad. You ought to know that you are unique in the way God created you and as such, no need to envy others.

Jealousy is bad because it stirs up hatred as it was with Joseph’s brothers. It makes the mind not to be at peace, leads one to commit sin and makes a child not to appreciate the good things that he sees in people. To be free from jealousy, you must first be born again and pray that God should set you free from the spirit of jealousy. Also, learn to love other people, understand that everyone is unique in his/her way and that you need to develop yourself to be the best.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, please help me not to be overcome by the spirit of jealousy.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
