TOPIC: Confidence In Crisis (DCLM Daily Manna 6 February 2022)

TEXT: Psalm 3:1-8 (KJV)

1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

4 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.

6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

7 Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

8 Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

KEY VERSE: “I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about” (Psalm 3:6).

MESSAGE:

One of the worst distressing experienceso anybody can have is that which emanates from the family. Someone said of household enemies: “They know your secrets, strengths and weaknesses as well as your daily routines and always wear mask whenever they want to attack you so that you can’t detect them.” A household enemy is, therefore, the worst kind of enemy.

King David was a victim of household enemy. For sure, he was a man of war and was constantly on his toes with regard to battles. But today’s text captures his experience in the fierce battle that ran him out of town, orchestrated by one of his sons, Absalom, who was desperate to take over the throne from him.

However, David knew the secret of lasting victory – absolute faith in the Almighty. He spoke words of faith and encouragement to himself. “I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about…”, he assured himself. In his petition to God, he recalled His past gracious interventions in his life – how God smote all his enemies “upon the cheek bone” – and he ascribed deliverance only to God.

Like David, you may be facing dire challenges. Your enemies and challenges may have sprung from unexpected sources. They may be on the increase. Do not fret. Remember God’s never failing promises and hold on to them. Recall His past interventions in your life and pour out your petitions to Him. He will never fail you. “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him” (Isaiah 59:19).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If you’re a friend of God, it doesn’t matter who your enemy is.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
