DCLM Sincere Milk 14 October 2022 — Be kind

DCLM Sincere Milk 14 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Be kind

TOPIC: BE KIND

TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 10:1-7

1And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.

2And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

3And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,

4Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

5And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.

6And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

7And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

Key Verse: “And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever” (2 Chronicles 10:7)

MESSAGE:

Kindness is one of the attributes or characters of God. Therefore, God wants you to be kind as He is. It then means that only boys and girls whose hearts have been washed clean in Jesus’ blood and have Jesus living in them can have this character.

King Rehoboam succeeded his father, King Solomon, who was cruel and wicked to the people. The people then came to plead with him to be kind to them to serve him better. King Rehoboam refused, and his kingdom was divided.

It is said, “Kindness begat kindness.” This means that when you sow kindness, you will also reap kindness. Your parents have invested so much in you – financially, physically, spiritually and in other resourceful ways. Don’t waste them.

Be serious. Be kind to other pupils in the school. You can help a child who is weak in any subject you know very well; share your lunch with the hungry.

You can bring hope to a child who has lost a dear one or possession through one disaster or the other by kind words of love and encouragement. In the church, show kindness to your teachers and elders as you obey the word of God taught and do not provoke them to anger.

A story was told of a child who was very hungry and a man showed him kindness by buying him some snacks. He looked at the man and asked, “Are you Jesus?” In all you do, show kindness and let people see Jesus in you. God Himself will surprise you with abundant blessings you cannot count and name.

Prayer: O Lord, help me by Your grace to be kind as You are.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
